ELECTRO-COG-AF: Effects of electrical cardioversion on cognitive function in individuals with atrial fibrillation.
Target population: You are 50 years old or older and have an appointment for electrical cardioversion.
We invite you to participate in this study to help researchers better understand the effect of electrical cardioversion on cognitive function (e.g., attention, memory, reaction speed) and brain function.
The objectives of this study are to:
- Explore the potential beneficial effect of electrical cardioversion on cognitive function in individuals with atrial fibrillation.
- Identify the effect of cardioversion on brain oxygen saturation and examine whether this change is related to cognitive function.
A better understanding of this topic will allow people with atrial fibrillation to make an informed choice about their treatment, considering the effect of electrical cardioversion on cognition. Please note that electrical cardioversion has been prescribed by your physician and therefore will be managed by your physician. The administration of electrical cardioversion is not part of this study. This study involves only cognitive assessments before and after the medical procedure.
Duration: The total duration of your participation will be 1 month and will include 3 visits during which we will measure your cognitive functions.
