DIISCCO : Effects of diuretics vs. high-intensity interval training

DIISCCO: Effects of diuretics vs. high-intensity interval training on cardiovascular and cognitive health.

Target population: You are 60 years of age or older and have pre-hypertension not treated by antihypertensive medication.

The prescription of physical activity by physicians is becoming possible but in order to make it effective and relevant, it is necessary to quantify the effects of training and to compare them to existing drug treatments. This study will provide answers in the field of hypertension in order to know if in certain cases, medication could be replaced by physical activity.

The objective will be to compare the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to the effects of diuretic antihypertensive drugs (recommended as first-line treatment) on cardiovascular health and on physiological and neuropsychological parameters known to be altered by hypertension.
