A major recent accomplishment stands from the development and validation of multi-domain interventions combining physical exercise and cognitive training to improve cognition (Bherer et al., 2020, Desjardins-Crépeau et al., 2016), mobility (Fraser et al., 2017) and walking (Pothier et al., 2018). More recently, we have shown the advantage of combining exercise and cognitive training to improve dual-tasking abilities in older adults (Bherer et al. 2020). The expertise we developed on multi-domain intervention had a significant impact on our national and international collaborations by allowing us to take a leadership role in the Canadian Consortium on Neurogeneration in Aging (CCNA), for which my lab designed fitness training programs and provide iPad-based training platforms in 5 clinical sites across Canada (see Montero-Odasso et al., 2018 for the methodological paper).
